Based on a true story, Lili is a compelling documentary that uncovers the incredible story behind why a mother abandoned her child amid the chaos of the 1956 Hungarian revolution.
Lili, a Hungarian immigrant now living in Brisbane, fled the political violence more than sixty years ago leaving behind a young daughter who shares her name. Her second daughter Edie escorts her now elderly mother on a trip to her home country in order to reconcile with her past and her first child. Peter Hegedus’s intimate film sensitively illustrates the significance of family, history and culture with great emotional power.
